After A Long Day
After A Long Day was created on my family farm, nestled in the Flint Hills. I entered the annual Ranchland Trust of Kansas photography contest, for which I took pictures relating to agriculture and conservation in Kansas. In this image, my dad was doing a head count of our cow and calf pairs, he was standing on top of the tallest hill in our pasture, and he reached out to touch a cow. I took hundreds of pictures, until I captured the moment where the cow touched his hand. The sun was setting at the end of a long day. This specific work shows the deep connection shared between animals and people. In this case the farmer provides for the animal, and the animal provides for the farmer and his family.
After A Long Day was taken by Josie Roggenkamp in the Flint Hills of Blaine, Kansas in 2018. Digital. 4.69″ x 3.52″.
